In this module, you will learn a high-level overview of the blogging process so you know what to expect.

The blog process follows these nine steps:

  1. Pick a topic. Our recommendation is to do this quarterly as part of your quarterly marketing plan, so you should always have a topic in mind that you are going to write on.

  2. Outline content. When you are first starting, we recommend a five-paragraph essay format where you have an introduction to the point you want to make, then three supporting paragraphs, and then finally a conclusion.

  3. Develop the first draft. With your outline in hand, write your first draft. Add your direct call to action to the end of your blog, such as “schedule a call.”

  4. Optimize the content for search engines. Add metadata (meaning your meta title and meta description). Optimize your content for search engines. We will go over this in more detail in another training, but in the meantime, if you are working with an SEO expert, have them do this for you. If you don’t, you can skip this step.

  5. Review and edit the blog for clarity. You may want to hire an editor or just have another set of eyes look over your draft and provide feedback. Run the blog through a tool like Grammarly to check for grammar, punctuation, and plagiarism. This will help you avoid any embarrassing mistakes.

  6. Post your blog to your website, and include an image that reflects the topic. Review the posted blog for errors (like missing subheads). It’s easy to make formatting mistakes, so double-check that all of your content is there and is formatted correctly.

  7. Promote the blog on social media to stay in front of your network with your content.

  8. Send the blog via email newsletter to stay in front of your email list with your content.

  9. Send your blog as a guest post to other publications. There are some websites or publications that will be happy to repost your content. Take advantage of this. If the website or publication requires original content, rework the blog you already created to make it original enough for their requirements.
